When I walked into the Michigan Job Fair on August 30th, I didn’t know what to expect. I went to a few tables talking to different companies, but one company stood out from the rest. That company was American Profit Recovery (APR). Now, I had no intentions in the beginning of becoming a Collection Specialist at a collection agency. I come from a background of Retail, being a Manager, Human Resources, and Customer Service. I also just recently graduated from EMU. But APR’s presentation at the job fair was awesome. The managers were very personable, and answered any questions that you had. I ended up speaking with my current manager now, Brian, for 20 minutes at the job fair, and the more he explained about the culture and company, the more intrigued I became. I applied on the spot, and set an interview up for two days later.
On my way to the interview, I ended up getting lost on 12 Mile Rd. for about 20mins. My GPS took me out the way, and I kept driving around in circles, and stopped by construction. I was worried out of my mind, because I am never late to an interview, and it was frustrating me that I was going to be a few minutes late. But once I got to the office building, I liked the atmosphere. I met with the receptionist Aubreigh, and she was very pleasant, friendly, and professional at the desk. The interview process went great, but was not what I expected. The first interview is about the company, and Brian told me all about the company, the culture, explained more about debt collections, and other things as well. He also gave me a tour of the office, which is really nice. I knew after the first interview that I really wanted to work here at APR. The second interview is all about you, and you present about yourself. I got to meet the Collections Manager, Mike, on this day, and he was also very nice. I loved how unique the interview experience was. I ended up creating a PowerPoint Presentation about myself. The second interview went well as well, and the managers were so very nice.
Fast forward a couple days, and I GOT THE JOB! Yes, I was super excited. My first day was phenomenal. I came to find out that I was hired in with two other ladies, Lhesa and Raven. They are very nice, and it was nice to be hired in with two other people. We were each assigned a manager (Brian, Brit, and Greg), and they were training us separately and together. Each manager has been pouring into us and training us very well. Always available for questions, and they all are funny as well. I have just had a great impression all around. They even took us out to eat to Buffalo Wild Wings on our first day for lunch! Our training has included role play, shadowing, reviewing policies, and lots of notes, and I am very happy with how the training has been going. One thing that I love about APR is that, APR is not just about collecting debt from consumers, but it is about helping both the consumers and clients resolve it. APR is truly about customer service, and I love that.
Literally ALL of my coworkers that I have met so far have been very welcoming and nice. They have also been willing to help train me, and for having me shadow them. I love the community atmosphere, and how everyone is willing to help and lend a hand. That is definitely the true definition of team work!
I am very excited to continue working here, and I am loving it so far. I would recommend APR to both future employees and clients. APR gets the collecting done! Oh, and did I forgot to mention that they have AWESOME benefits! I mean, you get your birthday off paid! (I’m not going to spoil the other benefits…) I see why American Profit Recovery has been named one of the best places to work for many years!!
