How to show appreciation to your employees

One thing that sets American Profit Recovery apart from many companies is the management’s way of going above and beyond to show their appreciation for their employees. Some examples of this are APR’s annual Employee Week, the holiday party, and my personal favorite, the end of the year call. This is when all APR employees get together in the big conference room, eat pizza, and recap the highlights of the year. Every department is honored as we go over collection and sales statistics and address the important roles that our support and IT teams play in the grand scheme of things.

In this meeting, awards are handed out for various categories, like Most Improved Collector, Rookie of the Year, and of course, the Corporate Citizen Award, an award that every employee is eligible to receive. Prizes are also given to employees who submit Bright Ideas to make the company even better, as well as those who take the time to recognize the good behavior of others through APR’s Caught in Action program.

I received a $25 Amazon gift card just by taking the time to acknowledge my fellow employees when they do something I find particularly helpful. There are also some funny gifts given out in the meeting based on what the managers know about the employees. One of the collectors was rewarded with a 12-pack of Diet Cherry 7-Up, something he can be seen buying frequently in the Sundry Shop in our office building. Finally, the managers present one lucky winner with a three night stay in Las Vegas, paid for by the company. In order to qualify for this prize, an employee must have a referral for an open position, then that referral must complete their introductory period and be employed with APR at the time when the prize is given.

This year’s end of the year call was a blast and I am already awaiting the next one. A wonderful time was had by all, from the food, to the laughs, to the prizes.
