I made the right choice working at American Profit Recovery

I had worked in debt collections before when I came to American Profit Recovery six years ago, first in collections for vehicle loans, and later for collections in mortgages.  I thought I knew what I was getting into—collections is collections, right?

BOY was I wrong!

Work life at American Profit Recovery is truly a unique atmosphere in so many ways. The managers and owners are in the trenches with us every step of the way. I couldn’t even tell you the names of the owners OR even the people in upper management at my previous employers when I worked there.

At American Profit Recovery, I usually see at least one of the owners every day and it’s a good […]

Six years helping clients and consumers

By Angela:

As I sit writing this blog, I am finding it hard to believe six years have passed since coming to American Profit Recovery. I still remember getting the call to come in for an interview and didn’t completely know what to expect or how I would be treated. Everyone associates “collection specialists, or debt collectors” as bad, mean people blowing up your phone.  But that’s just not true.

Walking into the office I was pleasantly surprised by the smiling faces and overall atmosphere. […]

Is a collection agency a great place to work?

We are often asked the question of whether working in the collection industry is a smart career choice. Our answer is simple, and it is an affirmative yes!

And there is no better evidence than earning a spot on the Best Collection Agencies to Work For list for 14 straight years now. The program is led by the independent InsideARM publication and the Best Companies Group.

Yes, we are one of the best places to work in this industry, and for good reason. […]

Culture in the Workplace-Vital to this Collection Agency

By Sabrine:

We have all heard others mention the significance of looking forward to work every morning, rather than dreading it. A positive work environment and culture is the very thing that can make or break an employee. Studies have shown that although employees make a decent salary at a company, they often quit for no reason other than the work culture.

If an employee is in a toxic work environment where they feel isolated, micromanaged, or ignored—it can easily cause burnout. This can affect a worker’s job performance as well as their attitude with customers they work with daily. It not only affects that employee, but it also leaves a negative mark on the company.

COVID-versary

By Matt:

Well, it has been one year since our state was shut down and we were “forced” to work from home.  Sound familiar?  What a crazy year it has been for sure.  Ups and downs, cases going up, cases going down ….. businesses closed, re-opened and closed and re-opened again.  Our clients’ sales down, sales up, sales down.  I think you know what I mean.  I wanted to share some of my learnings over the last year.

Empathy still exists!!  That’s right, people actually do have empathy for one another.  Even Democrats and Republicans!  Although we have always taken an approach of dignity and respect, a good chunk of our clients were overly nice and understanding […]

Heading to Vegas

By Angela:

At American Profit Recovery we do more than collect money for our clients. We have fun together, raise money together and work hard together. As the years go on one thing always remains the same, our employees look forward to our annual “Employee Week”. During this week we raise money for Summer Charities of Choice and Adopt a Family and have a lot of fun doing this. It could be anything from Trivia, running around the office with a spoon trying not to drop a golf ball, or even getting an Oreo in your mouth that is placed on your forehead (you gotta see it to believe it). All of these events lead up […]

I am thankful

With Thanksgiving recently upon us, I could not help but stop and think about all the things I am thankful for this year. 2020 has taught many of us to be grateful for the little things like family, socializing, health, and simple things like being able to grocery shop. I am especially grateful that I chose to work at such a phenomenal place as I approach my third-year anniversary at American Profit Recovery.

Working as a collector I hear stories from consumers all around the nation about their struggles during this global pandemic. Many have lost jobs, loved ones, steady income, and things some of us will never be able to comprehend. I put myself in […]

People are passionate and emotional because they care

By Greg:

2020 is clearly going to be remembered as the year of the pandemic.  Covid-19 dominated the news, and no one can deny how much it has impacted our lives.  For some it brought illness and grief, for others it brought unemployment and struggle, and for the fortunate ones it brought inconvenience.  However, I believe that it revealed some basic truths about us as people, and what we truly care about.  No, I’m not talking about stocking up on canned goods, bottled water, and toilet paper.  I’m also not talking about the strength of our internet bandwidth, or even our political beliefs.  What I am talking about are the fundamental things that all people […]

Giving Thanks!

By Matt Moskowitz:

“Your hardest times often lead to the greatest moments of your life.  Keep going.  Tough situations build strong people in the end” – Roy Bennett

“The flower that blooms in adversity is the rarest and most beautiful of all” – Walt Disney

No surprise, but 2020 has been a challenge for all of us!  I find that in the most challenging and darkest times is when I have grown and reflected the most.  Even though we have all faced incredible challenges this year, there is SO much to be thankful for.  Thankful for our friends and family.  Thankful for living in the greatest country in the world, by far.  And then we have more […]

Successful Entrepreneurs

Theoretical Underpinnings

Our PR guy was in town this time last year and among all of the really good questions that were asked during filming, there was one that struck me. What gets you out of bed in the morning?

My first thought was when you have hobbies like hunting and fishing, you’re always awake before the sun comes up. It also means that you wait for the weekdays to ‘sleep in’ (if only until 5 am).

My second thought was about my childhood. When I was a kid we burned firewood in the winter to heat our home. It was a decent size, two-story house with a gambrel (barn-shaped) roof. The physics of wood heat is that […]
