Keep Your Passwords Safe
Every day we help clients reset passwords that they have either forgotten or need to reset because they have been locked out due to the fact they haven’t logged into our website for a certain period of time. Many times people get frustrated with this and don’t understand why we have such strict security measures in place.
I, however, spoke to one of my clients last week who was using a random password generator and was happy to know we had such strict rules not only because he wants to make sure his patients information remains secure but also because he had just read an article from the New York Times talking about how easy it […]
Staying Compliant!
Helping to move the collection industry forward.
On October 17th, Sean Lennon, Mike Hiller, Greg Desana and I attended the Michigan Association of Collection Agencies Annual Educational Program in East Lansing, MI. Attorney Charity Olson did an FDPCA review that, as always, was extremely informative. Her practice is primarily handling lawsuits against debt collection companies and their collectors, and her presentation regarding the FDCPA is a must-see for all collectors. Her presentation delved into preventing FDCPA lawsuits based on her experience handling lawsuits against debt collectors. Her insight, experience, and expertise in interpreting the FDCPA is both very impressive, and very interesting. What never ceases to amaze me is just how compliant we as a company already are. […]
Living Within Your Means
While reading this article on MSN Money today, I was thinking about how this applies to my life and decisions that I make when I make a purchase. I know that there is always pressure from society to have the newest and best of everything and I almost fell victim to this idea a few weeks ago. I had just shattered the screen on my phone and instead of paying the $100 fee to get a refurbished phone from insurance, I decided to go to my phone carrier and look into upgrading my phone. I did my research before going in and knew what phone I wanted.
Upon getting in the store and meeting with the […]
Caught Being Good
I think I first heard this phrase from my wife referring to a tactic used in her 1st grade (maybe kindergarten at the time) classroom to reinforce good behavior. She would hand a “Caught Being Good” card out to a student who, very simply, was doing things the right way. Rather than focusing on what may be wrong in the classroom, she chose to focus on all the right things that were going on in the classroom…and the more those right things were identified, the more those wrong things stopped happening. Obviously, if one student destroyed another student’s crayons for the fun of it then a different tactic may need to have been deployed…but overall, […]
Be a Better Listener
A skill I feel too many people lack is the ability to listen and/or pay attention. There is more to it than just being a sounding board (although sometimes even that is all somebody really needs or wants). I think one of the last quotes in the article (link below) nails what listening is all about…”it’s the combination of a quiet mind and an honest intention”. Tune out the computer, your cell phone, thoughts about lunch, dinner, plans after work…you get the point…tune it all out and LISTEN to the individual(s) with an honest intent and more rewarding relationships will follow.
I highly encourage you to read this article on ways to become a better listener, […]

Charities of Choice 2013
Fall is here and as I’m quite sure you’ve noticed, the summer days are over, but not everyone was lazy this summer. Our American Profit team has been hard at work raising money for some well deserving charities this summer and we just tallied up our totals.
As we finish up our Summer Charities of Choice program we are proud to announce that this year our team has raised the most in the programs existence with a total of $3,718. The money raised by our collection agency team will be donated to charities that were chosen by our team themselves. There is a wide range of charities this year from helping veterans, to saving lives, […]

Making Strides 2013
It’s time for another American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event. You will see employees from this collection agency and our families out in full force for the 5th year in a row. (You can usually spot us with our amazingly bright colored shirts!)

The good news is, we can help! Whether it’s taking time out of your busy schedule to walk in an event near you or donating to someone who is walking, we can help those who […]
